A poem by Jeffrey Zable
I certainly wouldn’t want it because of the fact
that you have to maintain the love of people
you don’t even know.
All it takes is one bad performance, one bad review,
or a show of weakness to make people hate you.
Trying to stay in the good graces of the public
is about as worthy as trying to be friends
with a rabid rhinoceros.
To those who want it, I wish you the best.
See you in the next life!
