A short story by Andrew Nickerson
Following his return, Robyn Starling’s dad was horrified by the hell he learned his daughter had been put through by Pristine Figg and Lickboot. Outraged, he fired the pair and had them arrested for aggravated child abuse/neglect of a minor under the age of 13. However, a follow-up audit of his property soon revealed far worse: the pair had stolen millions from the family trust, Robyn’s trust, and the estate; there was also the matter of Dr. Applecheek, the ad they’d placed to find Robyn when she ran away, and the incident at Robyn’s Nest. Additional charges of criminal conspiracy, animal cruelty, accessory to extortion, racketeering, embezzlement, estate/investment fraud, fraudulent advertising, and reckless endangerment soon followed.
Despite Pristine’s arrogant claim that no one would ever believe Robyn, the court quickly convicted the pair on all counts…and the consequences were steep. First, Lickboot’s law firm fired him, then stripped him of his severance package and sent it to Mr. Starling as an apology; shortly thereafter, Lickboot was permanently disbarred. Second, the pair were ordered to repay every cent, which they ultimately couldn’t do, even after selling Lickboot’s car, their high-end wardrobes, and jewelry. Finally, after being forcibly ordered to apologize, both were sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Pristine and Lickboot’s dog, Ferdinand, was sent to a local animal shelter, but his
venomous nature and poor physicality quickly got him deemed “non-rehabilitative”. Two weeks after the trial, he was humanely euthanized.
Dr. Applecheek was soon arrested and charged with dozens of counts of animal cruelty,
extortion, racketeering, and one count of automotive theft for stealing the ice cream cart. He was even more swiftly convicted, and faced equally sharp consequences. First, his medical license was permanently revoked. Second, he was ordered to repay every extorted penny, which ultimately cost him everything, including his ancestral home and artwork. Finally, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Applecheek’s associates, the Stray Catchers, ultimately testified against him in exchange for only two years in jail apiece. However, the moment they got out, they immediately got involved in an even nastier conspiracy that soon got them rearrested, convicted, and sent to prison for 20 years.
Captain Kiddy wasn’t criminally charged for betraying Robyn, but Mr. Starling refused to
turn a blind eye to his treachery. In the end, the former was forced to sell his carnival and move to another location, where, although he managed to rebuild, his reputation meant he never regained his former glory.
Pugsy and Frankie the Flea continued traveling west, ultimately settling in a fresh town
where they were found/adopted by a local family. They remained happy—and pals-together the rest of their days.
Robyn Starling eventually reinvented herself, thanks to her dad’s promise never to leave
her again. She’d go on to become a major member of society, her horrible experiences soon
making her a formidable force in both school and her dad’s business. She even went on to write a book about her trial, crediting Tom and Jerry for both her success and happiness.
Finally, Tom and Jerry lived the rest of their days in the Starling house. Although they
never truly lost their mischievous nature, their fame—and infamy—was a better deterrent than any alarm system…even if it occasionally resulted in Robyn scolding them.
